How to obtain communication consent from your contacts using Fello

Learn how to obtain and view written proof of consent from your contacts before calling them.

The FCC's proposed TCPA regulations require businesses to obtain prior consent before reaching out to people, especially via telephone.

Fello helps you stay compliant with these proposed regulations, by enabling you to obtain written proof of consent from your contacts, and makes it easy for agents to check whether proof of consent is available or not before reaching out.

Written consent is especially important if your contacts have registered on the Do Not Call (DNC) registry, as it allows you to call them in accordance with DNC guidelines. Learn how to check DNC registrations in Fello.

In this guide:

Obtain Proof of Consent

Whenever your users are about to submit a Fello form, such as a Home Value or Cash Offer form, they will be asked to consent to receive communications from your business.

When the form is submitted, a Proof of Consent certificate will be generated for that contact. This certificate will contain details about the obtained consent and can be viewed at any time in a secure URL that you can share with others as required.

Note:

  • Fello provides default consent language, however, you can update the consent language if required.
  • Proof of Consent certificates will only be generated for contacts who submitted forms after 27 January 2024.

View Proof of Consent

Here’s how to check if written consent has been obtained from a contact:

  • Go to the Contacts module.
  • Click on a contact.

You will see a note in blue here with a link to the Proof of Consent certificate, if available.

You can also check the Communication tab in the left sidebar of the Contact Details page.

Note: Proof of Consent certificates will be generated each time a user submits a form. While the links shown in the screenshots above will always direct to the latest certificate, you can view past certificates from a contact's activity log.

The Proof of Consent certificate will be available on a dedicated URL for 5 years from the date it was generated. You can download the certificate from this page, or share the page’s URL with others as required.

Tip: You can create segments with Proof of Consent filters to ensure that your agents always have access to an updated list of contacts with written consent.

Update Consent Language

To update the default Proof of Consent language that appears in all forms:

  • Go to Marketing > Branding.
  • Select a branding template.
  • Navigate to the Information tab.
  • Add your own consent language in the Consent to Contact Customer field.

Note: Leaving this field empty will use Fello’s default consent language. We recommend using the default consent language if possible to ensure the best compatibility with Fello's current and future marketing tools.

  • Click Save to save your changes.

Now, Proof of Consent certificates that are generated in the future will contain the updated consent language, however, any certificates that were generated before will retain the consent language present at the time it was generated.
