How To Declutter Your Home

Written by Ceci Dadisman | Aug 13, 2020 4:00:00 AM

Decluttering your home can increase interest in your home. Clutter can cause your home to look smaller and provide distractions that may prevent potential buyers from seeing it's potential.

Here are the most important areas to declutter before putting your home on the market:

1. Entryway

You only have one chance to make a first impression and a tidy entryway is key to accomplishing it. Remove any shoes or coats that may make your entryway look smaller. A fresh entryway welcomes potential buyers and makes them want to see more.

2. Kitchen

Clean counters enable buyers to see the full amount of counter space your kitchen provides. Removing countertop appliances and other kitchen accessories immediately improves the appearance of your kitchen. Don't forget to clean out your refrigerator and freezer as well.

3. Bathroom

Thoroughly clean bathrooms and remove items from counters, tub, and shower.  Move makeup brushes and other items to the linen closet or under the sink so that buyers can envision what they would do with the space.

4. Play Area

If you have a children's play area somewhere in your house, you know how messy it can get. Pick up any toys and store them neatly in bookshelves and bins making sure to keep enough floor space to showcase the size of the room.

5. Living Room

Remove any personal photos and other clutter from walls and tables.  Clear extra pillows, stacks of magazines, and table accessories.  Consider temporarily removing large heavy pieces of furniture to make the room feel more light and airy.
