Why aren't all eligible contacts newly enrolled when turning on automations?

Learn how Fello calculates the number of contacts to be enrolled while turning on automations.

Contacts that are ‘enrolled’ in an automation will be eligible for automation actions such as emails or postcards.

When you turn on a new or inactive automation, not all contacts who meet the enrollment criteria will actually be enrolled. Here's why:

  • Previous Enrollments: Some contacts might have been enrolled before but didn’t finish the automation. These contacts are still part of the automation but aren’t counted as newly enrolled. (In our example, there are 5,000 such contacts out of 10,000 eligible contacts.)
  • Previous Completions: If re-enrollment is disabled, contacts who completed the automation before won't be enrolled again. (Assume there are 2,000 such contacts out of the 10,000 eligible contacts.)
  • Unenrollment Criteria:  Contacts who meet the unenrollment criteria will not be enrolled. (Assume there are 1,000 such contacts out of the 10,000 eligible contacts.)

So, out of 10,000 eligible contacts:

  • 5,000 are already enrolled,
  • 2,000 have completed it before,
  • 1,000 meet unenrollment criteria.

That leaves 2,000 contacts who will be newly enrolled. In this case, the number of newly enrolled contacts out of eligible contacts would be 2,000/10,000.
